Monday Musings
Is it just us, or did summer feel especially short this year? There's something magical about Alexandria in August. The pace is slower, the farmer's markets are overflowing, and the streets are quiet. It's like we have this charming city all to ourselves. So if you haven't found the time to enjoy it yet, consider taking a walk around town and take in this last week of August. We can all use one more week of calm before the busyness of fall hits. And don't forget to stop in and say hello to your favorite small businesses!
Celthia: I'm loving this new primer from Saint Jane Beauty! A new addition to the Saint Jane Beauty luxury collection, this moisturizing primer with mineral SPF30 sunscreen is light and smooth, blurs pores, and gives a soft focus effect under makeup. Packed with antioxidants such as Desert Rose, Jasmine, Hibiscus, and Green Tea to help protect, hydrate, and calm the skin, this primer makes a great recommendation for all skin types! (Available at Bellacara, $38)
Amy: There is so much to love about TRAVELER'S notebooks. Each rough-cut leather cover is created by hand, ages beautifully over time, and is created to last a lifetime. The inside of the notebook is completely customizable, depending on what you need. You can choose inserts that include a grid, a calendar, lined pages, or blank pages. There are also inserts with pockets that are ideal for keeping your passport, plane tickets, credit cards, and travel documents safe. Best of all, everything you need to get started is right here. Penny Post is one of only a handful of companies that carry this cult favorite in the U.S. (Available at Penny Post, $50-60)
Adrien: As summer winds down, we find ourselves heading into the thick of commuting and carpooling season. One of my top wellness hacks is to intentionally leave behind the hurry and stress of rushed driving and replace it with intentional moments of quiet and calm. Use your drive time to practice calm breathing and good posture, and take extra time to take in the world and others around you. You really will get where you're going just as quickly, and your wellness and others on the road will thank you!
Elizabeth: My kids still aren't in school, but I am ready for some back-to-school shopping for myself! I have always been a fan of a pointed-toe flat, and these two from AGL are just what I need for fall. I already bought the navy, but I really think I need the green! (Available at The Shoe Hive, $430)
Britt: With back-to-school season in full swing for many Alexandria families, our team has been reminiscing on our own first-day-of-school memories. I still miss the excitement of new school supplies, picking out the perfect first-day-of-school outfit, and reuniting with school friends after missing them over the summer. (Maybe that's what it will feel like when I return from maternity leave?!) P.S. How cute are my siblings on their first day back at Waynewood Elementary? This picture is a forever favorite.
