My Favorite Sneakers Are Back, Better Than Ever

Before sneakers became the coolest shoe to wear, AGL was making cool sneakers. I mean really good sneakers. They were ahead of the trend. And well, all of Italy was ahead of us as well.

When I first ordered them, I was not sure if clients would pay the price for a sneaker. At the time, it wasn’t as mainstream to wear them with skirts and dresses or to wear them out like you would a flat. Fast forward almost 19 years later, and sneakers are everywhere. I mean I never thought I would watch a sports show and the men would be wearing sneakers with a suit, but they do, and I for one love it. I also have horrible feet. I know the irony. So, for me, sneakers solve a lot of problems. This trend makes working the floor of the store or walking all over NYC so much easier.

The first sneaker we carried from AGL was a slip-on. We had so many variations for a few years. The most popular was in a fabric they called “eyelash,” which I owned in at least 3 colors. I cried a little when I finally had to toss them. Then, for some reason, they stopped making slip-ons. I think lace-ups just became more popular, and “dad” sneakers did too, so that is what they focused on. Don’t get me wrong, I wear the lace-up versions. But I always longed for the slip-ons.

Well, I am happy to announce that slip-ons are back and better than ever. Never have I been so happy to unpack a style of shoes, and just in time for our annual AGL trunk show. So not only can you pick up a pair (we have them in two colors) but you also get 20 percent off all AGL starting Thursday, March 2 through Sunday, March 5. If you can’t make it in, then you can shop online as well. Did I mention the off-white patterned version glows in the dark? I mean it just doesn’t get any better.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
