5 Things Organized People Never Store on the Floor

1. Shoes

As tempting as it can be to kick your shoes off at the door, this creates clutter and an opportunity to invite more mess onto the floor. Put shoes away immediately—in the hall closet, on a shoe rack, in drawers, or in your bedroom closet—and you'll never have to look at them on the floor again.

2. Packages

An unopened box is often an unfinished task, and while opening it may feel like one more thing on your list, it only takes a few minutes to unpack, recycle the packaging, and put the contents where they belong.

3. Sporting Goods

Take the time to hang things up and put them back in their designated spot in the garage or mudroom. When you're looking for the gear on an early weekend morning, you'll thank yourself for the easy access!

4. Laundry

Make sure your items make it to the hamper or back onto a hanger or into a drawer as soon as they come off, and you won't have to deal with the pile you don't want to deal with!

5. "Maybe" Items

You know that miscellaneous bag of stuff you're not ready to decide on? It has a way of multiplying quickly. Plus, once it's on the floor, it becomes the resting spot for everything else, too. It's better to make a decision once and for all—and don't be surprised if you go through everything and realize you haven't missed it since relegating it to the ground.
