New Year, New You: The Secrets to Wellness Dr. Shara Posner Swears By

As we step into a new year, many of us are ready to hit the reset button. But if you’re in your perimenopausal or menopausal years, you might be feeling like traditional resolutions—exercise more, eat better—just aren’t cutting it anymore. What if the key to a vibrant new year isn’t just about the gym or diet plans? What if it’s about aligning your spine, balancing your hormones, and nourishing your body in a way that supports *you* at this stage of life?

Nourishing Your Body: Fuel for the New Year

A well-nourished body is key to feeling your best, especially as you age. It’s not just about eating well—it’s about giving your body the essential nutrients and care it needs to thrive in 2025.

Here’s what I recommend to keep your body running at its best:

  • Protein; is essential for maintaining muscle mass, supporting bone strength, and keeping your spine aligned. I recommend 1.2-2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight to support your muscles, metabolism, and overall health. Opt for lean proteins like chicken, fish, tofu, or lentils to keep your body fueled and strong.

  • Magnesium: This mineral is vital for muscle relaxation, nerve function, and even sleep. I suggest 300-500 mg of magnesium daily preferably magnesium glycinate, as it is more easily absorbed and gentle on the stomach. Magnesium-rich foods like leafy greens, almonds, and bananas can help ease muscle tension, improve sleep quality, and support a healthy nervous system.

  • Electrolytes: Staying hydrated is crucial for energy and proper nerve function. I recommend LMNTelectrolytes, which are packed with sodium, potassium, and magnesium. They’re a great way to replenish your body, especially if you’re active. A pinch of Himalayan pink salt in water is another great way to keep your electrolytes balanced.

  • NAD: This powerful coenzyme plays a critical role in cellular energy production, metabolism, and repair. As we age, NAD levels naturally decline, but supplementing with NAD+—either through food sources like fish, yeast, and vegetables or through NAD injections or IV drips—can boost your energy, enhance cognitive function, and support overall vitality. You can also order an Activator/supplement for NAD production to further enhance your energy and cellular health.

  • Sleep Sleep is when your body regenerates and repairs itself. Prioritize 7-9 hours of restful sleep each night to allow your body to recover, including your spine and muscles. A rested body is a healthier, stronger body.

  • Movement: Movement is medicine! Regular exercise is essential for maintaining spinal health, boosting circulation, and keeping your body flexible. I also recommend strength training to help increase bone density, particularly important as we age. Strength training supports muscle mass, bone health, and overall functional fitness. Low-impact exercises like walking, swimming, and yoga are also great options.

  • Chiropractic Adjustments; Regular chiropractic care has a profound impact on your overall health. Spinal adjustments help restore proper alignment, reduce pain, increase energy, and optimize the functioning of your nervous system. When your spine is aligned, your body functions better, leading to improved posture, better sleep, and reduced stress.

Start Your Year Strong

As you set your intentions for the year, remember that a "new you" starts with a healthy, aligned spine. Taking proactive steps to nourish your body, keep your spine in optimal shape, and prioritize overall wellness will help you feel more energized, balanced, and vibrant.

Kick off the new year with a visit to your chiropractor to get your spine aligned and start your wellness journey. And if you're looking for an energy boost, ask us at Back to Health about **NAD+ injections and IV drips**—a great way to support your body and boost vitality.
