The Not-So-Basic Bottoms

Regular readers know I tend to talk about buying the basics when you shop, investing in pieces you are likely to wear over and over. I’ve called the Alicia McCaslin price-per-wear equation, in honor of my ultra-rational stylist friend.I stand by this theory. Spend big on the basic black blazer, white button down, camel coat, and leather jacket that you will wear time and time again. Quality is timeless. There are, however, times when you want to add a little excitement to your wardrobe. These are the pieces that make you happy when you see them in a store and in your closet. I probably have too many of these, but I think we all need some. This spring one of the biggest trends is bottoms in some not-so-typical styles. We are talking printed denim, bright colors, and wide legs. But just because they aren’t basic doesn’t mean you won’t keep them in constant rotation in your wardrobe, either. After all, we need something to pair with all our basic tops!We asked the lovely Jen Tierney to model these trends that we just got in from Isabel Marant Etoile, one of my personal favorite, and, of course French, lines.
