Paris? Non. Spanish Style? Sí.

I took a three-week hiatus in Spain and Morocco late May through early June, briefly touching down in Paris and London. Having spent the most time in -- and been the most inspired by -- Spain, I want to show you how to incorporate Spanish style into your wardrobe by highlighting four very popular looks. You all may be thinking, “Whaaaat?? Where is the Paris fashion???” I know, I know! But let me tell you what I took away from fashion in Paris:

1. Not realistic as people looked like they literally just stepped off the runway.

2. Everyone else looked like silly tourists.

Meanwhile, women in Spain dress with an effortless cool that conveys confidence and enhances feminine, natural beauty. Every Spanish woman looked put together and wore pieces that are actually approachable – as opposed to our Parisian friends who seem to be obsessed with the chunkiest of chunky Balenciaga sneakers.

Look 1

Madrid and Barcelona are extremely diverse cities that act as international business hubs. Spain fashion is all about minimalist chic, with strong influence of menswear style. The working woman of Spain was notably refined while her look was effortless. Spanish women updated the slightly over-sized blazer by pairing it with a dark-wash denim. It’s a simple and clean look that Spanish women made modern by pairing it with the low heeled mule.

Look 2

Women, and men for that matter, were repping their favorite fashion logos all over Spain and sneakers were on practically everyone’s feet. This awesome sneaker trend makes the statement women deserve comfort! Tourists and locals a like were rocking Golden Goose from the airplane, to the cafes, to the art museums.

Look 3

It was few and far between to see a truly feminine look. If you saw someone in a dress or skirt it was more often than not paired with a sneaker to make it a more casual look. If women weren’t wearing Golden Goose sneakers they were wearing Superga. The all white classic Superga was super popular and an easy way to incorporate a fresh pop into your outfit.

Look 4

Graphic and logo tee shirts were in abundance, either underneath a leather jacket, structured blazer, or on its own. This Isabel Marant tee shirt is paired with some distressed denim by Mother. Remember when I said Spanish fashion was all about effortless cool – these pants do the trick. The outfit wouldn’t be complete without a pair of Golden Goose sneakers. Did I mention that literally everyone was wearing Golden Goose sneakers??Besos!!!

Truly a local girl, Penelope was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. Penelope went to James Madison University (GO DUKES!) for undergrad with a degree in International Relations and has her Masters of Science in International Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University. While she never expected to work retail, she has found a second home in her Hive and Shoe Hive family, and has discovered the shoe and clothing addiction she never thought she had. After spending 5 wonderful years at the Shoe Hive and Hive as their Director of Operations, Penelope now works in the International Development field in DC. While her new career has her more removed from the day to day buzzz of the stores, you can still find her moonlighting (or should we say some weekend-lighting) at the stores. She just couldn't stay away! When not working or hanging out with friends and family, you can be sure to find her exploring a new country or national park!
