Summer Living Is Easy With 727 Sailbags

I was able to get away to the beach for the weekend and was thrilled to take along my new bag from 727 Sailbags. This company is passionate about sailing! They offer sailcloth bags – made from 100 percent recycled sails – in a variety of shapes and sizes. The sails are collected from sailors and sail-lofts, then sorted and carefully identified.

Stitched inside each bag is a certificate of origin retracing the maritime history of the recycled sailcloth, the sail number, and the number of products made from the sail. Each sail has its own story to tell and deliberately retains the marks, folds and seams that makes it unique. These distinctive features bear witness to the sail’s history and the trials it has been through.

By giving a second life to these sails, 727 Sailbags is doing its part to preserve the environment. Their bags make great gifts for guys and gals!

Some models incorporate leather to accentuate their designs. The bag I purchased is a convenient size, and its handles are made from rope similar to boat lines. It’s super soft and comfy on my shoulder. I received several compliments and a few questions about whether the bag was made from a real sail. Yes, as a matter of fact, it was!

Patina Polished Living was created 10 years ago by friends Amanda Mertins and Kimberly Weiler.

Amanda Mertins was born in Ohio and graduated the University of Maryland with a degree in Economics. She started moving and editing furniture and accessories while in grade school and hasn’t stopped since. She enjoys baking desserts and playing with her grandchildren.

Kim Weiler was born in Pennsylvania and graduated the University of the Arts with a degree in graphic design. Upon graduating, she was immediately hired by one of her professors at the Katz Wheeler Design firm. She loves design, gardening, sweet tea and all French bulldogs.

Amanda and Kim are excellent complements to one another-one could even say the Yin and Yang of design. Being very different people but with interconnected forces is the reason their partnership continues to flourish.
