Mark Your Calendars: National Stationery Store Day!

Yay! August 5 is National Stationery Store Day! It’s our favorite day at Penny Post and, based on last year’s success, apparently, it’s yours as well. I love our little paper and pen community. You guys really showed up to celebrate, and we couldn’t be more grateful. This year, we’re continuing popular features, and, to up the ante a little, we are excited to bring you a couple of fun new additions.

  • Just like last year, our vendors have created an amazing swag bag full of goodies. Spend $50 or more, and you’ll receive all the extras. There are only 100 of them to go around. Last year, the bags were available until about 3pm so time your visit right!

  • In addition to swag bags, our friends at ESP Tea & Coffee are bringing a complimentary tea and coffee bar from 10am to 1pm (or until supplies last). Grab a cup of cold brew – because it’s August after all – iced tea or cold chai while you shop.

  • Starting at 3pm, try your luck at our milk-bottle carnival game and win stationery store day prizes. For every purchase you make, you get a chance to knock down the bottles.  Get your throwing arm ready!

  • This might be my favorite new addition. We are launching our first-ever Penny Post exclusive t-shirt. It’s simple but bold. I can’t tell you how many people get “stationery” confused with “stationary.”  We thought it was time to set the record straight. Designed by our team and printed locally, our t-shirt will be making its debut on Stationery Store Day.  To celebrate the launch, each t-shirt will be 20 percent off. Stock up for all of your friends.

Last year, a flight cancellation caused me to miss the big event. I will be there this year, for sure. I can’t wait to see all our paper (and pen) friends on August 5!

Oh, don’t forget...that’s our tax-free weekend too. Bonus!

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations. Inspired by the art of personal correspondence, the power of handwritten notes, and the smell of freshly printed stationery, we surround ourselves with quirky, hilarious, and classically beautiful things to make life a little brighter.
