Quick Knits You Can Make in a Day, With No Previous Experience
As a yarn shop owner, I have seen many “learn to knit quickly” books come through my door. Learning from a book certainly isn’t for everyone, and our introduction to knitting classes are frequently sold out for this reason. But I learned most of what I know from books, and certainly many of my fellow knitters did as well. So, when one our most fun yarn vendors launched a learn to knit book, our team was really excited about it. Loopy Mango Knitting was published this fall. It is a gorgeous hard cover book with helpful color illustrations and a hefty techniques section to help a complete newbie get started. The projects include easy to follow instructions so that you can start with a scarf and be knitting sweaters just a few projects later. Every project in the book is designed on big yarn and can be finished in just a day of knitting. They are all truly unique pieces that will stand out in your wardrobe or make wonderful gifts. Your very first project will likely be this garter stitch scarf. (The pattern is named “My first scarf.”) It is the simplest of knitted fabrics, created with only one stitch over and over again but the size of the yarn and needles makes it stand out. The book will then walk you through the steps of working in the round for your first hat project. Hats are quicker to make than scarves and make wonderful gifts. I love the oversized pom pom on this one. While you may find it hard to believe, after you have knit a hat, you can move on to cowls, simple sweaters and vests. (A vest is really just a few rectangles seamed together!) My team and I love that this book helps move a new knitter to those projects quickly and with chic projects that you will actually wear. This fringe bandana is a statement piece that you can wear year-round. The projects below are surprisingly accessible to even a new knitter. (I promise, you can go from scarves to sweaters in just a few weeks). Below are two of the 13 sweater designs in the book, all intended to be completed in just a day. Stop by to grab Loopy Mango Knitting and to pick out a fun color of Loopy Mango yarn for your first scarf.
