Setting Goals For The New Year

The New Year is a wonderful time to look at the changes we would like to make in our lives, and how best to accomplish them. The New Year provides us with a clean slate which promotes a motivating feeling of optimism. At Patina, we make a point of focusing on home “improvement.”  How our home looks and feels will naturally affect how we look and feel! It’s true that the home is where the heart is, so, let’s make it lovelier, more organized, and extra comfortable.

Lose some “weight.”

I’m not talking about actual pounds, but rather, things. Let’s purge and purge some more. Plan your space and how you want it to feel. Look around your home and de-clutter. Free yourself of things you don’t like, or items that don’t work in your life anymore.

Make a bold statement.

Neutral colors are safe, but can also work with a pop of color. Whether you go bold with accent walls and large pieces, or take a more subtle approach with decorative accents, make the space your own! Decide on the feel and personality you want from each room and find a color scheme to match. This year’s Pantone color is Viva Magenta!

Be selfish.

Plan out a room or space just for yourself. Consider your space as where you go to recharge your personal battery. Be sure to use your favorite colors and to surround yourself with everything that makes you happy.

Patina Polished Living was created 10 years ago by friends Amanda Mertins and Kimberly Weiler.

Amanda Mertins was born in Ohio and graduated the University of Maryland with a degree in Economics. She started moving and editing furniture and accessories while in grade school and hasn’t stopped since. She enjoys baking desserts and playing with her grandchildren.

Kim Weiler was born in Pennsylvania and graduated the University of the Arts with a degree in graphic design. Upon graduating, she was immediately hired by one of her professors at the Katz Wheeler Design firm. She loves design, gardening, sweet tea and all French bulldogs.

Amanda and Kim are excellent complements to one another-one could even say the Yin and Yang of design. Being very different people but with interconnected forces is the reason their partnership continues to flourish.
