The Boyfriend Blazer (Welcome Back)

As you have already read, some nostalgic 80s trends are making a comeback. Fall collections left us reminiscing about the decade-defining movie Clueless and making up dance routines to every Madonna song. Some trends that made that decade are edging forward but may not be returning to The Hive. I have yet to walk into a showroom and see a pair of leg warmers, a mesh pull over, or acid wash or patchwork denim that makes me think I must relive that trend. Some things should just be left in history. There are also many trends that bring a little tear to my eye, and make me think about high school, sneaking out, and drinking Sun Country Wine Coolers (sorry, mom and dad) on the country club golf course. Those were the days when I spent hours upon hours worrying about what I was going to wear. I mean, in my crowd, we dressed up in high school. We are talking suede mini skirts, lace tights, and over-sized sweaters, often times all at once. One of my favorite trends then, and well into the 90s during my college days, were over-sized blazers. This fall, the boyfriend blazer has a bigger presence than years before. I have long resisted having more than one option on our racks but this year I went for it. My personal fashion icon Emmanuelle Alt, pictured center above, is often seen wearing one around the streets of Paris so I decided it was time for them to hit the streets of Alexandria, with a few less shoulder pads, of course.
