The Cutest Memorial Day Outfits For The Whole Family

When I recently saw Bishop Boutique unpacking American flag sweaters the same day we were unboxing an almost exact children's version, I knew we needed to join forces and get coordinating. With Memorial Day and SUMMER on our minds, we descended on Old Town's iconic Goodies Ice House, home of the most amazing frozen custard and treats. What's more Americana than chocolate sundaes, stars, and stripes?!

Luckily between myself and Bishop's owner, Kelly Ferenc, along with our seven children, who are practically the exact same ages, we had plenty of models to help us out. I've always admired Kelly, and I love everything about Bishop Boutique. Kelly has impeccable taste and savvy business sense and is always down for nonstop laughs over a nice Landini martini. I immediately sought out her thoughts when I was considering taking on boutique ownership several years ago, and every piece of advice she's given me has been true to form. She's been such a great resource for me, and she understands the nonstop chaos of trying to somehow keep it together with kids and the never-ending demands of running a small business.

Another fun fact connecting Monday's Child and Bishop Boutique? Our managers happen to be best friends and roommates from college. Tiffani and Hattie moved to the Washington, D.C. area after graduating from the University of Georgia, and they both go above and beyond in every aspect of running the stores. The world needs more Tiffanis and Hatties!! I'm sure Kelly agrees that we couldn't live without their help. I desperately wanted Hattie and Tiffani in matching flag sweaters, but with a recent move, the timing didn't work out, so they'll be coerced to match next time.

Like most things in my life, we pulled this shoot together quickly, last minute, and after deadline. I'm grateful every second I get to work with our photographer Renée who agreed to the session with less than 24 hours' notice. Renée is an angel on earth, and I don't know how she juggles her business with five boys; she is unflappable and always wearing a smile on her face.

And how cute do our models look? I love how patriotic our area is. Red, white, and blue are always in season here, and we couldn't be more ready for summer barbeques, trips to the beach, and long days at the pool. Between Bishop Boutique and Monday's Child, we have all the Americana looks you need to kick off the summer in style.

Owner | Monday’s Child

Born and raised in Alexandria and married to a native Alexandrian as well! We love living in Old Town - just a few blocks from the store - with our three little boys and golden retriever Rumpelstiltzkin. Although my first job and real love was retail (the Lilly Pad where Mint Condition is now), I worked in Public Affairs and PR prior to buying the shop, which has really been a dream come true for me. I feel so grateful to work with our customers to find the perfect outfit for their special childhood moments. When I’m not at the store you can probably find me at an Old Town park chasing the boys or on my yoga mat.

A classic children’s boutique in Old Town, Alexandria for 40 years, we carry special occasion and play clothes for sizes newborn to 12. Located in the historic Crilley Warehouse just two blocks from the water, Monday’s Child is your go-to shop for baby gifts, baptism gowns, holiday dresses and outfits, boy’s blazers and ties, First Communion, shoes, books, toys and much more.
