From California to Alexandria: Monbouquette’s Exclusive Trunk Show

It’s rare for designers to make appearances at our stores. Over the years we’ve been lucky to host the Fortunato sisters, Amy Smilovic of Tibi, and Ann Mashburn. With so many retailers carrying a line, it’s impossible for designers to visit them all. So when they do make the time and choose us, we’re incredibly grateful.

When I discovered the brand Monbouquette in Vogue and reached out about carrying the line, I never imagined they’d offer to host a trunk show. I was blown away—especially since Jenny and Lilly live in California. Honestly, I almost tried to talk them out of it; whenever someone hops on a plane to come see us, I want to be sure it’s worth their while.

Please join me in welcoming this mother–daughter design duo to Alexandria on Thursday, September 18 from 4–7pm for a kickoff event with wine and conversation. If you can’t make it that evening, they’ll also be in-store all day Friday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20.

Now that you know they’re coming, let me tell you about the brand. I had been searching for something fresh and distinctive, and found it in Monbouquette. At first glance, the jewelry is beautiful, but look closer and you’ll see that each piece hides a clever functional twist. Rings flip to reveal new colors, earrings transform into two looks in one, and even a pillbox ring opens to reveal a hidden compartment. After 22 years in business, I’ve never seen anything like it.

Personally, I can’t decide if I’m more obsessed with the earrings or the chunky rings. The Coin Ring—two colors in one—is a favorite, while the Pillbox Ring still amazes me every time it opens. The earrings are equally playful, like discovering secret treasures in a jewelry box.

This is a trunk show you won’t want to miss. Jenny and Lilly are bringing pieces we’ll only have for the event, and once they return to California, the jewelry goes back with them. Stop by The Hive Thursday evening or anytime Friday or Saturday to experience Monbouquette in person, plus get 20% off during the trunk show!

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
