The Hive Lookbook 2: The 3 Dresses I’m Adding To My Closet

Time for the second edition of our Fall Hive Lookbook. Hard to believe we have enough room in the store for all these great lines. This is our first full fall season in the new location, and we are excited for all the space.

One new line you will notice is Joseph. Look for more about this line out of England in a future Stylebook post. I have been a fan of theirs for a long time, and a few customers had mentioned it to me, and I thought it was perfect as folks return to the office this fall.

Of course, my favorite, Allude, is in this book. Don’t let the photos deceive you; we got lots of great colors - so many shades of blue and green and, of course, basics in chocolate brown, black, navy, and ivory.

Since I love a good button-down, one of the lines I personally can’t wait to arrive, and know I can start wearing it right when we unpack it, is Wearcisco. Theirs is a color block style that reminds me of a shirt I had in the 90s from J. Crew - and that is a good thing.

Needless to say, we are really excited about fall. We have so many great items it is hard to pick which I like the best.

I decided to highlight three dresses that I will be adding to my wardrobe. An easy dress can make anyone’s morning a lot smoother. You know what I am talking about when you don’t have the bandwidth to figure out an outfit, but you want to look put together. This fall, there are lots of great options.

The Prescott dress from Hunter Bell is a little bit of a departure from her normal feminine style. It is the perfect throw-and-go dress and can be dressed up a little, but also, you wouldn’t look crazy on the sidelines of your kid’s game if you wore it. And for the record, since you may be wondering, I go to a lot of sporting events way too overdressed for the bleachers. Then there is a Western Volume dress from Ann Mashburn. Once again, easy to dress up or down and in a great dark red color. Then Joseph, the brand I mentioned earlier, does sleek and timeless pieces, and the Marino Rib Dress is a must. I will wear it all the time. Throw a blazer and boots on for an elevated look or sneakers and an oversized button-down or jean jacket to take it down a notch.

If there is anything in the book you want to be notified about when it comes in, just message us on Instagram, call the store, or email me at elizabeth@theshoehive.com.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
