A Special Visit from Annette — and Her Fall Picks

It has been over a month since Annette left for Philadelphia. The good news: she’s starting with a great store in Philly in early September called Joan Shepp. The bad news: we’re not sure how often she’ll be able to visit Alexandria to help out at The Hive.

I did talk her into one last visit before she starts her new gig. Before she left, she had been painting bumble bees and glittering wings in the basement—so she’ll also be installing one final window creation while she’s here.

On August 14th, Annette will be in-store working the floor. You’re welcome to pop in any time between 10am and 6pm, but we’re also offering appointments for anyone who’d like to book one-on-one time with her. Signup here.

I also asked Annette to pick out some of her favorite fall arrivals since she was with us at market helping select them. She chose two standout Ulla pieces, one of which we ordered because everyone always compliments a similar coat she owns. I almost passed on it in the showroom, but Annette insisted we include it. She also reminded me that I’m always searching for purple pieces for Gonzaga fans, and couldn’t believe I almost skipped it!

The Ulla top is classic Annette. I wasn’t surprised by her pick of the Tibi dress either—fitted at the waist with a flared skirt, always a flattering shape. Then, of course, the Autry sneakers—because if you work retail, comfy sneakers are essential. And finally, the Rachel Comey pants: a gorgeous color and an easy silhouette that transitions perfectly between seasons.

As you can see, we have some amazing new arrivals—and if you’d love the chance (hopefully not the last!) to shop with Annette, book a spot or stop by and say hello.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
