Southern Sophistication: Hunter Bell Lookbook

Did anyone else watch the show Fashion Star about a decade ago? I will admit I was not a loyalist, but I remember watching it occasionally. I have always liked Jessica Simpson and she was one of the judges. Hunter Belle, a 32-year-old designer who graduated from the University of Alabama won Season 2. Fast forward a decade later and we now have her line, Hunter Belle, at The Hive. Of course, the line has changed and evolved over the last 10 years, just as our store has.

Hunter was raised in the South but moved to New York City after college to pursue a career in fashion. Working for lines like Rebecca Taylor and Nanette Lepore, she set out to design her own in 2006. Her offices are now in Houston, but the clothes are made in New York City. She always says her model customer is a southerner with a New York state of mind. She is also a mother of 3 young girls, so her clothes reflect her busy lifestyle. I have met her in person, and of course follow her on Instagram, and she is always dressed, but with a twist. She does not shy away from color or pattern, and she has a way of mixing prints that make it look easy.

When we were at market in February, she mentioned that she has someone at her company who was traveling to do events. As I mentioned yesterday, we were chatting, and Hart Jewelry came up (they share that southern connection) and we decided to do two events at once. They really are the perfect pairing.

Hunter Belle has sent us some of her newest arrivals for the event. Shop the Hunter Belle event starting Friday, March 31 and receive 10 percent off their collection.

Hart’s team is here on Friday and Saturday morning and Sanders, from Hunter Belle, will be in the shop all day on Saturday. Don’t worry you can shop their pieces Friday as well but if you want help from the Hunter Belle team in person, make sure you stop in on Saturday. We will have an espresso bar as well to keep you caffeinated while you shop.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
