As you now know, Penelope sadly moved this summer to pursue a career in supporting the evaluations of government-funded international developed projects. Currently, she focuses on projects in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. So, you know, just a little different than working in retail. After five years, I was very sad to see her go, especially because I had finally placed an order that she was excited about - I mean really excited about, and that’s a tall order. I had contacted a brand called Blundstone last year, and they sent me a catalog. I walked into the store, and Penelope held up the catalog and said, “Are we really carrying Blundstone? My entire family wears these.” And she had a smile on her face as she said it!

Needless to say, I was very pleased with myself; I had made Penelope happy.

So, I get it; these might not seem like the logical brand to add to our selection. But I wanted a pair, and I figured if I did, then other people must. I wanted a comfortable boot to wear to muddy sporting events, or since we all started getting outdoors more, something I could wear on a hike and go eat lunch but not look like I was wearing, well, hiking boots. I think they are cute.

In the last year, they have seen a surge in their popularity, and here is why: they are light, comfortable, and supportive, and (the real reason): they are durable. Really, really durable. They last for years and have a removable footbed that slowly molds to your foot over time.

Durability is a legacy trait - the company has been around since 1890. That is correct, 1890. They are still located where they started in Tasmania. This Australian company has put boots on Aussie soldiers, the Sydney Dance Company, Olympic athletes, and Everest expeditioners. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be any of those things to enjoy these great boots.
