My Top 5 Locally Sourced Spring and Summer Trends
One of my favorite things to do while the baby naps is pour over all of the beautiful spring and summer trends. I guess you could say I’ve always been a “trend seeker,” but I have to say that I’ve never fallen in love with so many trends all at once! This season is filled with pieces that seem more timeless, but they’ve been reinvented in a modern way that feels empowering, versatile, functional, and wearable all at the same time. There have been many moments during quarantine when I’ve identified a hole in my wardrobe and then went on a virtual mission to fill it. A quick shout out to all of our local boutiques for making my search a local shopping experience! How incredible is it that we can hop on Instagram or Facetime, see something we love, message the boutique, and pick it up curbside within 20 or 30 minutes? This is what community is all about! Now, here are my top five favorite locally sourced spring and summer trends!
Volume
This fem trend is a total treat. Not only can you find volume that is comfortable, you can find volume is flattering! I’ve been particularly drawn to volume sleeves, like this top from Kiskadee. When a sleeve hits at the right spot it’s a total game-changer. Many of my clients are self-conscious of their arms. A volume sleeve that gathers above the elbow or at the wrist can be much more comfortable and surprisingly slimming. PS - if too much volume freaks you out, go for a softer fabric like silk.
New Denim Shapes
From tapered to balloon to the cropped wide leg, all of the denim styles are so much fun. I think it’s time to step away from the skinny jean and try something new. This will add an extra layer of options to your outfit rotation. The trick is choosing a leg shape that balances out your hips and your upper half. I recently popped on a virtual shopping call with TSALT and fell in love with the Grace Crop Jeans by SLVRLAKE. The high waist hits me at the smallest part of my natural waist and the straight leg shape leans on the wider side and balances out my broad shoulders.
White Shirt
I can’t get enough of this trend. You can literally buy a white cotton shirt to fit any body type. They come in all shapes, sizes, and styles. Most importantly, they are airy, comfortable, and effortless. We can dress them up, wear them to work, or wear them around the house (like...now). You can even take your husband’s shirt and rock it! Here’s a tried and true option that I purchased at Periwinkle - The Essentials Icon Shirt by Rochelle Behrens. This top has some stretch and an extra hidden set of buttons along the placket to avoid any embarrassing gaping.
Barely There Sandals
A common question my clients ask is what shoes to wear with all of these new denim shapes. The barely there sandal trend is the best option to pair with any bottoms in the spring and summer months (I go for a chic boot in the fall and winter). Barely there sandals have super thin straps that expose the majority of your foot, thus they do not compete with your outfit. The thing I love most about barely there sandals is this: they are sexy and chic. I grasped this concept a long time ago when I decided I am not a sexy person, but these make me feel sexy without feeling really awkward. I’ll take it! You can opt for literally any heel height from flip flop to a sky-high strappy. Let’s start simple with these perfectly chic flip flops by TKEES at The Shoe Hive!
Cream Denim
There is something about cream denim that makes me so utterly happy. It feels fresh, crisp, and classic. Cream denim can be worn by everyone. Opt for pants, shorts, a top, or a lightweight jacket. If cream washes you out just wear it on the bottom and wear a suitable color on top or layer your favorite color shirt or blouse under a jacket. Point is, it is completely year-round and adds depth to your wardrobe. Let’s not forget that it pairs flawlessly with every color! I stumbled upon these Citizens of Humanity cream denim cut offs on a virtual shopping call with The Hive a few weeks ago and I am in love!
