Are You Team Beach Or Mountains?

We don’t often embrace controversy here at Stylebook. After all, our goal is to create a space filled with joy and empowerment. But, this question was just too good not to ask! One of our readers was stuck on vacation planning, and asked us: are you team beach or mountains?

Amy, Red Barn and Penny Post: Team mountains all the way. The beach is great and all, but wow there are a lot of people. I much prefer the isolation of the mountains. Though the sound of crashing waves is delightful, the forest brings me peace.

Elizabeth, The Hive, The Shoe Hive, and Yellow Jacket: I wish I were beach. I do love a beach vacation every now and then. But if I were able to pick a spot to “summer” it would be the mountains. Preferably by a lake. I hate the hot weather. I mean hate. So, if I could live in Cashiers, North Carolina, or maybe somewhere in Maine, I would be much happier. I want to be able to put on a sweater at night.

Meaghan, Alexandria & Company: The Jersey girl in me cannot help but vote Team Beach (though I do love the mountains, too). I love nothing more than an open, quiet beach with plenty of umbrella shade. I get true joy from being in the water and the fact that we can only do this during a few short months of the year makes it that much more special.

Katelin, Family First Law: This is like asking me chocolate or wine! I'm going to say beach though! I grew up in the mountains, so the beach feels like an escape from the normal, and I love reading in the sun, and listening to the waves with a beautiful view!

Adrien, Alexandria Wellness: Team Beach all the way! I grew up four miles from the beach and spent a lot of my childhood in Newport Beach. It is part of who I am. I am happiest there. Sand in my toes, hands, and shoes means I am happy. When Bill and I married, he became an adopted Californian too, so we have spent most of our vacation time in So Cal with the kids.

Christina, Alexandria Stylebook: High School Musical’s Sharpay Evans once said, “Endless days in my chaise, the whole world according to moi” and I concur. The beach, please. My most treasured childhood memories are from many family trips to the beach, where my Dad would watch me from the shoreline (“Now don’t go TOO deep!”) as I played mermaids for hours upon hours in the waves (“Five more bonus minutes, Dad, please, Ariel needs me!”). Don’t even get me started on the ubiquitous “ice cream man” with their rolling carts that somehow contain the freshest ice cream that has ever existed. But, #teambeach isn’t a hill I’ll die on, I’m an equal-opportunity vacay enjoyer. Once the ice cream man makes it to the Appalachian Trail, then you may find me there!
