Join Us in Celebrating 21 Years of The Shoe Hive!

What a year 2024 has been! In our 20th year we had a lot of unexpected changes. When we celebrated our 20th last fall, I could not have predicted that within 12 months: I would not have a men’s store, I would have an outlet (I like to call it a local version of Nordstrom Rack) and that The Shoe Hive would close its doors at 127 South Fairfax St. and merge into our space at 315 Cameron St. I feel tired just typing it.

It all happened in a short timespan this summer. Many folks have asked me if I’m emotional about the closing of our space at 127 South Fairfax, with the lovely courtyard. When it was all happening I was excited to consolidate. But when the boxes were moved and the inside was empty, I walked by and saw the lights off in the middle of the day. My sign was laying in the middle of the courtyard and I did get a bit emotional. I decided I shouldn’t walk past it again until Monday’s Child had opened. It just seemed, well…sad. I was actually shocked how much my kids were affected by it. My son asked me last week if I was sad about it. I said a little and asked him if he was. He replied, “All I’ve ever known is you having The Shoe Hive in that building.” It kind of broke my heart a little. I literally signed the lease for that space when he was one-week-old.

But as Sheryl Crow sang: “A Change Will Do You Good.” And it has, now that we have all sat with it for a moment. I mean, have you seen how adorable Monday’s Child is? It’s just happy, happy, happy all day long in there.

Our team is also happier to be all on one block. I am actually surprised at how much folks love the outlet. We are in the process of getting more items from other stores we know and trust in other cities – more to come on that later. And of course, having the shoes and clothes all in one spot just makes life simpler for everyone working and shopping.

This month we celebrate 21 years. We’re kicking off our anniversary month with our annual sale and of course, a Citizens of Humanity trunk show which has become a bit of a tradition. After that, both stores are 21 percent off everything. At The Hive even if we unpacked it that day it’s still 21 percent off, and at P.S. The Hive (301 Cameron Street), it’s an extra 21 percent off the already discounted prices. This is a short sale. We aren’t doing it because we need to move the merch that badly; we’re doing it to say thank you! It kicks off Thursday, October 3 and goes through Sunday, October 6. On Thursday, we will have wine, and are open until 7pm as well. Shop the sale all weekend and if you can’t make it in, you can always shop online.

We also have some other great events scheduled for the month of October, so the party continues. We are hosting our first denim trunk show to introduce Emerson Frye’s denim line, Twin Doves Denim. Then to make sure everyone doesn’t forget we still have great shoes, we are hosting a Freda Salvador event. Stay tuned for more details on both:
