The Return of Wolford at The Hive

Wolford has been at The Shoe Hive for a long time. I think we even had it on the shelf at the original tiny store at 115 Royal Street. During COVID, we stepped away from the brand a bit—there wasn’t much demand for tights and nylons when no one was leaving their homes. We have slowly brought them back, and this year they’re back in a big way.

Not only are we stocked with tights and nylons in different patterns and colors, we also carry their bodysuits and tank tops. I know the price tag can be a bit of sticker shock, but I promise it’s worth it. The reason Wolford is so great is because it lasts. The fabric is higher quality than anything else on the market, and the production is also superior, especially when it comes to tights. I’ve owned some pairs for over ten years. The fabric is also incredibly comfortable. Tights and bodysuits can feel constricting, and these do not. When I wear other tights, I want to rip them off after a few hours—but not Wolford.

I would like to pass along a sizing tip I’ve learned over the years when it comes to legwear. First, the higher the number, the thicker the tight. If you want more of a sheer nylon, go with the Individual 10. If you want something in between, a 20 or 50 is perfect. If you’re looking for a heavier tight, the Velvet de Luxe 66 is the way to go. If you’re between sizes on the package, size down for thicker tights since they have more stretch, and size up for sheerer styles, which have less give.

These tights really don’t get runs if you’re careful when putting them on. I recommend taking off any rings or jewelry that might catch the fabric.

It’s shaping up to be a cold winter, so tights and layering pieces are a must—and you truly can’t go wrong with Wolford.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
