Fundamentals Styled: Five Looks From Courtney

This week The Hive is kicking off our Fundamentals Event and to showcase the items and how they work in so many different ways, we asked Courtney to model a few for us.

There are so many reasons why I love having Courtney model our clothes. One is that she’s willing and shows up with a smile on her face. Second, she looks great in everything. If you can’t tell by the photos, Courtney is petite. I don’t know her exact height but I think I am about eight inches taller. As you know, I am on the tall side…though shorter than the rest of my family. The reason I bring this up is when I recommend Tibi to some customers they say they can’t wear it because they’re too short. Often they tell me Tibi looks good on me because I am tall. Now, maybe they don’t like it and that’s why they say it, but I am going to take it at face value. I also often hear that people are worried Tibi’s over-size style will make them look too “big.”

Neither of these statements are true and I think these photos show that just isn’t the case. It’s all about how you style the pieces. Yes, the Sid has some volume. It’s structured volume, but it’s obviously not a straight jean that so many people are comfortable wearing. When you wear a jean with volume the key is the pieces you put with them. You need something more fitted up top and then a little skin always helps as well. It’s the Big-Slim-Skin formula you will hear the Tibi team talk about in their online styling tutorials. The scrappy shoe is the skin and the nude boot, while covered up, serves as “skin” because it is fitted to the leg.

Check out five styled looks modeled by Courtney:

I know sometimes executing these formulas can seem overwhelming at first, which is why we have brought in Ali to help, and of course everyone at The Hive wears Tibi so we are always there to help, too. Sometimes it’s just a front tuck of the shirt or rolling up the sleeves a bit for some skin. I promise everyone can wear Tibi. I also promise that every customer that buys it comes back in and says how much they love their Tibi.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
