The Fundamentals: Thoughtful Fashion Over Fast Fashion

I watched an old Tibi Style Class the other day online about how to organize your closet. Most of the time we approach it by color or style, but they had a different theory. They said to organize by the things you wear the most. Put the “Without Fails” in an easy spot because that is what you wear the most.

It totally makes sense to me, especially coming from Tibi. Tibi is the brand that made me understand how important it is to have the fundamentals in our closet; the things that ground you and make it easy to get dressed in the morning. I have never been an “outfit” person. When I’m planning to go to an event with friends, I often have people ask me what I am going to wear a week or so prior to the event. I honestly never think about it, like ever. Yes, I have a lot of clothes, but I also know I have the things I need to get dressed and feel good. These are my fundamentals. As long as you have those, you are set.

All of my fundamental pieces are pretty much Tibi, with some Allude mixed in and denim. I know as long as I have my joggers (nylon and wool), my Stella pants (leather and wool of course), my Liam blazer, my Marlon blazer, and a few skirt options, I'm set. I can change up the tops or accessories and really be ready for most occasions.

Each fall and spring Tibi launches their fundamentals collection. It’s new colors or fabrications of the pieces they know will work all of the time. Lucky for us, the spring launch has just dropped.

Even more fortunately, the release coincided with the arrival of a new line for us, Saint Art. I have high hopes for this line. I am hoping it’s a brand like Tibi has become for us. People know the fit and the styles will work and its quality means it will last for years in their wardrobe. Both brands aren’t carried in department stores and are committed to not overproducing their product. This is the opposite of fast fashion. This is thoughtful fashion.

One of my goals is to never have someone come in and say, “I never wore that dress.” I want them to come in and say "I wear those pants once a week." That makes me happy.

To help accomplish this goal we are having a Fundamentals Event. We will kick it off on Thursday, January 25th with the help of Ali Helmuth. She will be on hand from 12 to 4pm  to help you make sure you select the best pieces for your lifestyle. Book an appointment here.

To make it even more fun to shop, you will receive a $50 gift card for every $250 you spend on full price items. These gift cards can be used the entire month of February when we will have tons of great new arrivals for spring or towards sale, and we all know February is Warehouse month.

Come by and see us, we have so many great new items we know will make getting dressed in 2024 a little easier.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
