Loafers And Logos Are Back In Style

Every August, I would spend a few weeks at my grandmother’s farm in Kentucky. One of the items annually on the top of our agenda was back-to-school shopping. We would head to The Hub, a mini department store in Danville, Kentucky, to start checking items off our shopping list.

One item that remained constant was Bass Weejun loafers - at least until middle school when they had to be swapped out for boat shoes. Did anyone else curl the laces so you wouldn’t have to tie them? Back to loafers, my grandmother always put brand new pennies in them before I left Kentucky.

I have decided this nostalgia is probably why I love loafers to this day. Or maybe it is because I have bad feet and most loafers are really comfortable. Whatever the reason, I can never resist ordering them whether they are “big” each season or not. Well, this year they are, so we loaded up since every line seemed to do their take on a loafer. We have yellow loafers, lug sole loafers, and all sorts of other options.

One item that I never have been big on, however, is logos. I don’t know why; my grandmother wasn’t either, so maybe she passed that down to me. I have never owned a Louis Vuitton. I do have an old Gucci hobo that has logos, and I never carried it, so I have been saving it for Blair. I do own some Gucci loafer and heels that have a smaller gold logo on them that I will not be passing down. I do wear them, but not often. There is one logo that I do tend to love; it is the one by French designer Isabel Marant. I can’t explain this, but I love her logo t-shirts and sweatshirts. When I clean out my closet every year, that is one item I will never ever toss. I have a collection of t-shirts, and whenever I can’t figure out what to wear, that is what I wear. It is odd, I know. We just got Isabel Marant back in stock, so I had Madeline style two of my favorites, loafers and the Isabel logo. The outfits look amazing. Cleary, it proves my point of why both items are so great.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
