Do you glow? I’ve been searching high and low for a magical serum that will give me perfectly dewy skin. Not a sparkly over-the-top shine, but that beaming glow that I see after a yoga class (ignoring the wild hair, of course). How can I package that up and have it all the time? All this searching for a glow reminded me of how often I’d hear “you’re positively glowing” while I was pregnant. It was magical. But, also, I know I glow now, as a mom, and as me. I’m sure Adrien will agree, you glow during menopause! You glow at work after you say that thing that you weren’t sure you should say, but plucked up the courage and said it anyway. Let’s normalize acknowledging the glow in each other. We’re glowing all the time! And maybe the ladies at Bellacara can chime in on how to capture that glow all day long, but in the meantime, here are our Monday Musings…

Elizabeth: There are two habits I started in lockdown that have stayed with me and maybe don’t give me a pregnancy glow but at least bring a little joy to me. One is walking outside. I had a 5 o’clock date with my Covid sister and it really saved me. Adrien always told me getting outside is the best thing for your mental health and I now agree (we should always listen to Adrien). On the days I don’t go for long walks I can tell a difference in my mood and mental state. The second thing is burning candles. I always have one going. One of my favorites is Cire Trudon which they sell at MANSE in Old Town. Then, from The Hive, I will always stand by Boy Smells. It is too hard for me to pick a favorite and if you have been in lately, you can smell our newest line, Baobab. I fell in love with the containers but now I love the scent just as much.

Adrien: Thanks for the shoutout, Elizabeth! With positive mental health habits in mind, I challenge us to view exercise as movement. Movement is a way to honor our bodies for all they do for us. Whether we enjoy morning walks, playing with children or grandchildren at the park, or an aerobics class with friends, we can shift to a positive mindset knowing that we exercise because we love our bodies, we want to increase our longevity and mobility, and we want to dedicate ourselves to our wellness – because we deserve that!

Amy: I will never forget when we moved from Columbus Street to King Street in 2012. To save money we did all the painting ourselves. As is in classic Amy style I underestimated the amount of work painting a million cabinets and 12 ft high ceilings would take. My husband, myself, Kathy's sons, and Blair's future son-in-law all pitched in to help. It wasn't perfect, but we got it done. Fast forward almost 11 years later and it's time for a refresh. Or, dare I say, glow-up. This week Red Barn Mercantile will be closed for a little facelift. She just needs a fresh coat of paint (by real professionals!) and a few touch-ups here and there and she'll be ready for her close-up, Mr. DeMille. Feel free to shop online, but keep in mind that everything will be packed up or tucked away so it may be next week before we can fulfill. Thanks for your patience and we will see you in the store soon!

Britt: I’ll defer to the ladies of Bellacara here, but I recently started using the Watermelon Glow Dew Drops serum from Glow Recipe and love how lightweight it feels. I’m definitely on the lookout for a holy grail brightening product, and this one comes close. It feels natural and I can layer it as a primer as a part of my daily makeup routine. Mom life has a lot of moments of glow, but let's be real, sometimes finding moments for ourselves can be a challenge. I'll take an extra brightening boost any day!
