Outfit to Room: Think Pink Edition (Perfect Timing for Our White Sale)

Did you know that we sell bedding? Not many people do, so you’re in the majority. That’s why we have decided to have a White Sale. Very little is more traditional retail than a White Sale in January. Since tradition is practically our middle name, we are excited to bring you 20 percent off all bed linens from makers like Pine Cone Hill, Libeco Linen, John Robshaw, and Pom Pom at Home this month.

January is that time of year when we get to refresh and renew, and cozy new bed linens are a wonderful way to do that. So, when I saw Elizabeth’s pink-tacular post on Friday, I was inspired to do an outfit to room featuring the palest pink bedding that Pine Cone Hill has to offer.

Using the Keaton linen duvet and shams as my starting point was easy. As soon as I saw this look, it sprang to mind. The next step was finding the perfect rug. Since the bedding was so simple, I wanted to add some pattern elsewhere in the room and the Cat’s Paw rug was perfect. It’s a surprisingly versatile pattern. While it can lean toward cottage-y, if you pair it with more sleek and modern shapes it quickly feels abstract and painterly.

Because I wasn’t going for the cottage look, I went with clean lines for the casegoods. The bed is a reclaimed wood and is dramatic while still approachable. In my imaginary room, the dresser is across the room from the bed, so I wanted to balance it with something a little heavier; that’s why I went with the faux raffia finish in a greenish gray. Plus, I felt like that color and the whimsical Kate Spade lamp brought in the black of the dickey in Penelope’s Veronica Beard jacket. To bring in some metallics from the gorgeous AGL shoes, I added my favorite go to accent: brass. The knobs in the dresser and the side tables, the slim profile brass mirror (more clean lines!), the lamp on the bedside, the casters on the bench, and even the tiny touch in that Kate Spade lamp, all bring a sense of continuity to the room without overwhelming it. Keeping the metallic accent tidy and spare makes the room feel finished.Texture is always one of my favorite design elements. That’s why we have so much here. The wool rug is a counterweight to the light linen in the bedding, the Tulu pillows, and the Field Bench from Cisco Brothers; the wood bed is balanced by the metal accents; and the sleek, faux bone side tables are juxtaposed by the raffia finish in the dresser. I’ve said it before, when you’re using solid colors or a monochromatic theme, then texture brings interest to the room without assaulting the senses.

I hope you enjoyed our version of “Think Pink” today. If you’re inspired to make a change but are in need of a little design help, then we have our Design Collective ready to serve. Made up of four of the area’s top designers, the Design Collective can take your home from a mishmash to polished and collected all while saving you money, time, and mistakes.  Email us at Hello@redbarnmercantile.com and we will get the ball rolling!

P.S. This is a special order only sale. We don’t actually have bedding on the floor (thus why folks don’t know we sell bed linens), but what we do have are the fabric samples for all the above lines for you to mix and match and take home to view in your space before committing to a purchase. Our makers are quick on the shipping so you can have a new bed within a week or two of placing your order. How easy is that?!
