Light, Love & Strength: Honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October invites us to shed some light—on hope, on health, and on our homes. We’ve always believed that light has the power to transform, brightening not only our spaces but also our spirits.

This month, that idea takes on deeper meaning as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a cause close to our hearts. My grandmother faced breast cancer with grace and grit and was fortunate to overcome it. My business partner Kim lost her mother to the same disease, and her strength and love continue to inspire everything we do.

The truth is, nearly everyone has been touched by breast cancer in some way—whether personally, through family, or among friends. It’s a shared connection that reminds us of the importance of awareness, early detection, and compassion.

In their honor, we’re turning our attention to pink, a color that represents care, courage, and optimism. From blush-toned glassware to cozy throws and framed art, these touches of pink bring warmth and meaning into every room.

This month, we’re also highlighting our new collection of table and floor lamps, because lighting can be just as transformative as the stories of the women we honor.

As we reflect, remember, and celebrate the strength of so many women this month, we invite you to join us. Let’s light up our homes and our hearts with something beautiful, meaningful, and pink.

Patina Polished Living was created 10 years ago by friends Amanda Mertins and Kimberly Weiler.

Amanda Mertins was born in Ohio and graduated the University of Maryland with a degree in Economics. She started moving and editing furniture and accessories while in grade school and hasn’t stopped since. She enjoys baking desserts and playing with her grandchildren.

Kim Weiler was born in Pennsylvania and graduated the University of the Arts with a degree in graphic design. Upon graduating, she was immediately hired by one of her professors at the Katz Wheeler Design firm. She loves design, gardening, sweet tea and all French bulldogs.

Amanda and Kim are excellent complements to one another-one could even say the Yin and Yang of design. Being very different people but with interconnected forces is the reason their partnership continues to flourish.
