Pumpkin Spice Makes Your Bones Nice: A Fall Treat for Your Health!

While I may not be the biggest fan of pumpkin-flavored lattes, I absolutely embrace real pumpkin this season for its incredible bone-building properties. Let’s be honest: Who doesn’t want strong bones? And pumpkin is here to help!

This incredible gourd is packed with minerals and has amazing alkalizing properties, which are crucial for maintaining bone health. Think of alkalizing foods as your bones' best friends—they help keep things balanced and strong. What’s in that pumpkin? A treasure trove of nutrients! It’s rich in potassium, magnesium, copper, iron, and phosphorus—all essential for supporting bone density. Plus, you’ll find a generous dose of vitamins like zinc, vitamin E, and selenium, which are powerful antioxidants. And let’s not forget the omega-3s, which have been linked to reducing hip fractures in women.

So, this fall, let’s make pumpkins our skeletal sidekicks!

To help you incorporate more pumpkin goodness into your diet, here’s a high-protein recipe for

**Pumpkin Pikalets** (pancakes that are as fun to say as they are to eat):

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree

  • 2 tablespoons almond meal

  • 2 egg whites

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (or macadamia nut oil)

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

  •  A dash of nutmeg

Instructions:

  1.  In a bowl, combine the protein powder, pumpkin puree, almond meal, and baking powder.

  2. Whisk in the egg whites, coconut oil, vanilla extract, and nutmeg until you have a smooth batter.

  3. Cook on a preheated skillet until golden brown on both sides.

Serve them up warm, and enjoy a delicious way to boost your bone health while reveling in that cozy fall vibe!

So this autumn, let’s trade those pumpkin spice lattes for some real pumpkin power. Your bones will thank you, and you might just feel like a million bucks! More importantly, if you’re ready to take your bone health to the next level, let’s chat. Schedule an appointment today!
