Fly, Sweet Boy: A Mama’s Road Trip to Auburn

Fly, Sweet Boy.

Hugs to all! We’re on our way to Auburn with full hearts—knowing Gonzaga has played such a beautiful role in our boys growing into exactly who God created them to be, and loving them endlessly along the way. The world needs our boys.

My eyes water, but my heart knows everything is a gift. AMDG 💜 Eagles fly high! War Eagle! 🦅

Go, and take on the world, my sweet boy. People need to hear your voice and see your smile. You are going to change the world in the most positive way.

Of course, with all these emotions comes the mess—boxes and bins of sheets, curtains, cleaning supplies, and little extras we don’t really need but bring anyway. It’s stressful at times, but it’s also part of the ritual. Through it all, I remind myself: make time for time. Focus on the small things—they always mean the most. Cook favorite meals together. Eat together. Celebrate together.

Even when your heart feels a little broken, celebrate the beauty of your children flying. Grandparents are the best—helping, showing up, and being ever-present. And yes, I cry one minute and laugh the next. The swirl of anticipation, love, and pride is almost unexplainable…but so precious.

On a 13-hour road trip, when the boys fall asleep in the back seat, I catch glimpses of them at age three—tiny, safe, and dreaming big. They know we’ll always be here, no matter what. I know they know what love is. And that’s enough.

So fly, my sweet boy. Take good steps. The world needs you. There is only one you. And you are so loved.

On the Virginia home front, favorite dinners are packed. The boys stayed up late last night talking and watching a movie, sweet brother moments I’ll treasure forever. And waiting at the other end of this trip? An amazing big brother in a new place that is part of our home and hearts now, too!

Not really a math girl, but somehow our family always adds up. Always “just the seven of us!” Six plus one is seven. Minus one, plus one. Five plus two. Always seven. Always whole.

Lean into this life we’re given. All the emotions, all the love, all the happiness. War Eagle! 💜
