Street Style: Meet Zipporah Norton

Zipporah Norton and I go wayyyyy back as I have known her since her birth! That’s right, she is my awesome younger sister. I know this may seem biased, but she is not only one of the hippest and stylish people I know, but also one of the most determined and driven. I feel so honored to be able to introduce you all to a fellow Alexandrian and an amazing artist. Zipporah graduated from James Madison University in 2017 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Drawing, Painting, and Print Making. She continued her study at the 2017 Summer Painting Intensive Program at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. Zipporah has had her work featured in multiple galleries and has created a body of work that’s truly impressive. How lucky am I have such a talented sister? Zipporah was recently juried into the Torpedo Factory as one of their visiting artists for the months of July and August – the youngest artist to be juried in...ever!! She is located in studio 316 (on the 3rd floor), but if you don’t have the chance to pop by and check out her work in person this summer you should definitely peruse her website to see what she is all about. Several of her pieces are hanging in my apartment, making me appear far more cultured than I actually am.

Penelope Norton

Truly a local girl, Penelope was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. Penelope went to James Madison University (GO DUKES!) for undergrad with a degree in International Relations and has her Masters of Science in International Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University. While she never expected to work retail, she has found a second home in her Hive and Shoe Hive family, and has discovered the shoe and clothing addiction she never thought she had. After spending 5 wonderful years at the Shoe Hive and Hive as their Director of Operations, Penelope now works in the International Development field in DC. While her new career has her more removed from the day to day buzzz of the stores, you can still find her moonlighting (or should we say some weekend-lighting) at the stores. She just couldn't stay away! When not working or hanging out with friends and family, you can be sure to find her exploring a new country or national park!
