Elizabeth’s Top Five Shoe Picks for Fall

We tend to focus so much on clothing that sometimes it feels like The Shoe Hive is forgotten– which is crazy because this fall we celebrate its 20 year anniversary. It’s literally just a few weeks away. How did that happen? Well, more posts on the store's journey are in the works, but for now I wanted to share with everyone the newest arrivals to The Shoe Hive.

We have been unpacking boxes and getting ready for fall, if only the temperatures would start being more agreeable! Personally, I am ready for a cold morning when I need a sweatshirt. I just want to wear all the new boots that we have in store.

Here are my top picks for fall, and, of course, most of these are already in my closet, check ‘em out:

1) Talitha by Rupert

This is not my typical shoe choice. You won’t find me in heels or platforms often, so an orange water snake platform is really out of my wheelhouse. But I couldn’t resist these and I must say, they are really comfortable–so much so that I also have the yellow suede version. My Aunt Hazel always used to say, "if it fits, buy two." So I did.

2) Jomy by AGL

I am personally very excited about the return of the ballet flat. I was in NYC for market recently and every other buyer was in a ballet flat, especially Chanel ones. They are back in a big way. I love this pointy version from AGL. We ordered it in two colors, cognac and cream with black trim. The cognac has already arrived and I am anxiously awaiting the cream.

3) Emi by Freda Salvador

Thank Shannon for convincing me to bring back Freda Salvador. Not sure why it took me so long, but they are back and better than ever. My top pick (but I want them all!) from Freda is the Emi combat boot. It also took me a bit to get onboard with this trend, but after I picked up a pair last year, I’ve never looked back.

4) Freeway Chelsea by pskaufman

And please, thank Annette for this line. Annette has joined me for market the last few trips and each time she brings one pair of shoes – these boots from pskaufman. We literally walk for miles and miles, and she says they are just as comfortable at the start of the day, as they are at the end. That is quite an endorsement. She has also owned her pair for a few years, and they still look great; one of those shoes that gets better with time. This is our first season with pskaufman and we have three colors for the Chelsea—which makes it difficult to pick.

5) Harper by Tibi

Okay, I own a lot of this shoe. It’s had different names in seasons past, but it’s basically the same shoe. It is so comfortable, and it makes me feel like I’m wearing a heel when I’m not. I have them in many different colors and fabrications, and if they ever stop making it…I don’t know what I’ll do.

Browse the Shoe Hive Fall LookBook and you’ll see we have lots of great options, and two great new lines. We still have more coming in, but plenty to choose from already. Now, Mother Nature just needs to get on board (goodbye heat!).

Owner | The Hive, The Shoe Hive, and Yellow Jacket

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
