The Trunk Show Event We Can’t Stop Talking About

When it comes to Instagram, I basically follow three different types of accounts: brands I carry, stores I admire, and Boston Terriers. I think the third category throws the algorithm for a loop. Last fall, when it popped up in my feed that Ann Mashburn and the Fortunato sisters were doing a joint event at another boutique I follow, I thought, "What a perfect pairing." I jumped on my computer to see if The Hive could pull off the same event. We hadn't had any designers at the new space, and I wanted to do something big this spring. I knew this would be huge.

Of course, they all agreed to do it because if you know anything about Ann Mashburn or Lizzie and Kathryn Fortunato, you know that they are amazing people. Literally, an hour after I sent the email, they both said yes, and all we had to do was make our calendars work. Well, this week is the week, and Friday you can meet all three of them at The Hive, along with a special selection of pieces from their spring collections.

When it came time to promote the event, I needed to come up with the perfect people to model the clothes and jewelry. I needed people who were fun like the two brands are and loved color. Once again, the perfect pairing popped into my head, Kim Smith-Kidd and her daughter, Carter Kidd. Not only are they two of the most kind and generous people you will meet, but they have also supported me since I opened the first store 18 years ago. You might have read about them before and know that their son/brother Chris works with us at Yellow Jacket (he used to be at The Shoe Hive), and they are basically my family at this point.

Despite having very busy schedules, they made time to help us out, and we couldn't be more grateful. This mother/daughter duo is always dressed and already have lots of Lizzie and Ann Mashburn in their closets.

We hope you will come by and see the great selection we have in store and meet the designers Friday, April 1, from 10am to 4pm. If you can't make it by, the trunk shows will be going on all weekend, and to make shopping easy, we have a lookbook attached, and you can shop our inventory online as well at 20 percent off.

Owner | The Hive, The Shoe Hive, and Yellow Jacket

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
