How to Shop Like a Pro: The Era Edition

After a busy kid-filled summer I made it into Era, Old Town's newest boutique nestled in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. As a wardrobe stylist, I have a different point of view when it comes to shopping because I'm not typically there browsing for myself. If you see me around town I'm typically shopping and researching for clients. I'll text them photos of cool pieces, try brands on for sizing and quality, jot down notes of new interesting brands they might want to explore or hold items for them to try. Not going to lie, sometimes I'll leave with something for me!

Since I am brand new to shopping at Era, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do another episode of Shop Like a Pro: Era Edition. Get your credit cards ready and here we go!

Meet Hattie

First thing's first get to know Era's owner and stylist Hattie Dove. You can tell she majored in Fashion Merchandising because the store is curated perfectly, which really helps when you are shopping. The finger spacing is impeccable.

Where to?

Our calendars are starting to fill up with back-to-school events, birthday parties, showers, weddings and the list goes on. Hattie says that when most people come in to the store, they lead with a specific event that they need an outfit for. If you tell Hattie the date, location and vibe —she will pull exactly what you need!

Boho, Feminine, Western & Trendy

Speaking of vibe, Era has really fun energy! There's a little bit of everything, but the pieces that caught my eye were majorly boho, feminine, western and trendy, so if you go into Era looking for a killer outfit or accessory and you fall into one of these style camps you'll surely find it.

New Brands

Era is bringing a few new brands to Old Town that I love like Favorite Daughter, Generation Love, Hope for Flowers. They also carry Pistola denim, which is a brand I know you all love. Whenever I walk into a new store I always ask what cool new brands are in the store for that season. It's a great conversation starter. When I asked Hattie this question she walked me through all of the clothing racks, and pulled out different pieces and explained what made them so cool. This process makes shopping way more fun, otherwise you just stand there looking at all of the clothes and get overwhelmed with where to start.

Western Accessories!

Where did I start, you ask? I immediately ran to all of the cool western accessories that are scattered around Era. Western is big this fall!!! Hattie has a bit of a western undertone, so I wasn't surprised to see turquoise rings, cowboy hats, handkerchief rings and bolos!  If western isn't your thing, they offer plenty of jewelry that touches on all of the style types I mentioned above! There's something for everyone.
