Putting the “Shoe” in “The Shoe Hive”

Customers often tell me they think we don’t have as many shoes as we used to. Since I handle the buying, I can promise you that—aside from Sam Edelman—we absolutely do.

Nothing drove that home more than pricing shoes for the Alexandria Warehouse Sale and realizing just how many we still have. Boxes and boxes of shoes. In fact, we have far more shoes on sale than clothing, simply because shoes are what’s left. And in many ways, that feels fitting—because staring at stacks and stacks of shoes just like these is what inspired me to start this event years ago.

I originally planned to create a graphic styling outfits from sale pieces, but halfway through, it became obvious: what people really need to shop is the shoes.

The deals are truly insane. Of course, it’s always nice to be a size 6 or 6.5 at sale time, but this winter our selection goes far beyond that. As usual, we have a strong assortment of size 10s and 11s—and so many size 6 styles left that we may end up dedicating an entire table in the back just to them. I’m still trying to figure that one out.

I promise you, the shoes alone are worth a visit. And if you can’t make it in person, everything will be marked down online as well. Shop early for the best selection, and keep an eye on our social media to see when prices drop.

Our very first social media handle was @ShopTheShoeHive, and that mantra has never felt more accurate. You can absolutely put the “shoe” in “The Shoe Hive” during this Alexandria Warehouse Sale.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
