Street Style: Meet Jacquelyn Posey of Pisces Moon Permanent Jewelry
Jacquelyn Posey is the founder of Pisces Moon Permanent Jewelry, a bright studio tucked upstairs at 106 North Saint Asaph Street. Less than a year after opening, she already considers herself an Old Town local, with favorite shops, loyal customers, and a community she never expected to find.
Jacquelyn has always loved jewelry. Her grandmother, whom she describes as "effortlessly chic," filled her childhood with beautiful rings, necklaces, and the belief that great jewelry could elevate any outfit.
That lifelong appreciation took on new meaning during a girls' trip to Florida in the summer of 2024, when the group booked appointments for permanent jewelry.
The jewelry itself was beautiful, but what struck Jacquelyn was the experience. Groups celebrating birthdays, bachelorette weekends, and friendships came in and out of the shop, spending hours laughing together while choosing chains and charms.
"One of my friends looked around and said, 'I can't believe someone gets to do this for a living,'" Jacquelyn recalls. "And I thought... I could do this."
At the time, she had stepped away from traditional work and was feeling unfulfilled. "I thought it was the goal," she says. "But I really missed doing something creative."
Instead of flying home with everyone else, Jacquelyn stayed in Florida for three extra days, completed a seven-hour training, maxed out a credit card buying equipment, and returned home determined to build a business.
"I really just hit the ground running when I came back," she says. "I was extremely pumped.” After countless hours practicing her craft and teaching herself metalsmithing, she was ready.
The following months were full of startup challenges, but her big break came when she was invited to a pop up above Wine Gallery 108. During the event, she connected with building and wine shop owner Lisa Katic, who mentioned an upstairs room was available for rent and asked if she was interested. "I immediately said, 'Yes. What's your Venmo?'" Jacquelyn says with a laugh.
At that moment, Pisces Moon Permanent Jewelry had found a permanent home.

Today, customers come to celebrate birthdays, weddings, graduations, military deployments, anniversaries, and even honor loved ones they've lost.
"I get to hear everyone's story," Jacquelyn says. "That's honestly my favorite part."
Groups often arrive ready to celebrate, and Jacquelyn is right there celebrating alongside them.
"I love being above the wine shop because I always have a little bottle of champagne when a group comes in," she says. "Lately, people have been having such a great time that they'll ask, 'Can I run downstairs and get another bottle?' And I'm like, 'Yeah, girlfriend, go!' It turns into a little party in my studio. I feel like I'm hanging out with all my best friends. The only sad part is when they leave."
Customers can choose from sterling silver, gold-filled, or solid gold chains, along with birthstones, gemstones, charms, and nearly endless customizations. Jacquelyn also works with a small family-run manufacturer in Brooklyn that hand-sets stones to order, creating one-of-a-kind pieces for each customer.
"I love that people aren't just buying something they think is beautiful," she says. "They're creating something that's meaningful to them."
She sees that excitement long after customers leave.
"I'll look out the window and see them walking down the street looking at their jewelry," she says. "Sometimes they'll send me selfies later saying they can't stop looking at it."
The business's name reflects Jacquelyn's own outlook. An Aries sun with a Pisces moon, she says she's learned to channel her fiery energy into creativity. "I'm the biggest daydreamer," she says. "I wanted the business to feel romantic and imaginative."
It's a feeling she's created through her business, but also one she's found in Old Town. "There really is space for everyone here," she says. "People genuinely want each other to succeed."
That spirit of collaboration has become one of her favorite parts of owning a business in Alexandria. Customers are referred by neighboring boutiques, restaurant servers, and fellow entrepreneurs, creating a community where small businesses genuinely champion one another.
People travel from across Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. to visit her studio, and for Jacquelyn, that's part of what makes Old Town so special. "They're not just coming to see me," she says. "They're spending the day here—shopping, walking to the waterfront, visiting other small businesses. My little jewelry store gets to be part of a much bigger experience."
Yes, customers leave with a beautiful piece they'll wear every day. But what Jacquelyn has really created is a place where life's biggest moments—and even the ordinary ones—are worth celebrating.
And maybe that's the real magic of Pisces Moon Permanent Jewelry.
