The Best Local Gifts For Dad

From midnight monster scares to game-time strategy, dads are the bedrock of the family. Sometimes they tell you exactly what they need, but usually, you’re on your own to figure out how to show your appreciation. If you’re stuck on a gift for Dad, here’s are our contributors’ picks:

Amy, Red Barn Mercantile and Penny Post: Ugh, my dad is so hard to buy for. He has everything he needs and needs nothing except maybe new golf equipment but golfers are very particular so it’s best he buys it himself. Ugh again. So, I generally stick to things he might enjoy eating.  Hope & Harmony peanuts are my go-tos for Dad, especially the Southern Heat flavor. This year, I’ll pair peanuts with this handsome leather golf log – the only golf equipment that’s safe to buy for him.

Elizabeth, The Shoe Hive, The Hive, and Yellow Jacket: Even though my dad and husband have never met a quarter zip they didn’t like, once in a while I want to find something different. Well, I have to tell you, I have found the perfect gift. It isn’t even one thing. It is an entire brand that makes personalized leather goods, Clayton & Crume. I have gifted a few sets of Rocks Glasses and Flasks and they were a huge hit. But there is more than just drinkware. There are journals, sunglass straps, key chains, coasters, desk pads, iPhone cases, koozies, and watch straps. I will admit I was drawn to the brand initially because it is all made in Kentucky. My mom was born and raised in the Bluegrass state, so I have a soft spot for all things Kentucky (except Bourbon). But after a year of carrying the line, I have been so impressed with the quality.

Adrien, Alexandria Wellness: Bill has forever been begging to jump out of a plane for his birthday or for Father's Day. It drives me nuts. Maybe after the teens are off to college?! Last year, I got him a ride on a stunt plane. This year, I asked a friend to take him to their club for a round of golf. As a family, like Mother's Day, we will head into D.C. Bill wants to check out the new Korean War Memorial and he loves the WWII Memorial. That is where you'll find us. Last, he will get a break from playing chef.

Amanda, Patina Polished Living: We had a hard time picking just one dad gift (after all they have just as many hobbies and interests as moms!) The one thing our picks have in common is that they are all unique, elegant, and sure to fit into his lifestyle. Here are our picks:
