Introducing New Sneaker Line: Autry

We are always looking for new lines at The Shoe Hive. There have been times when we’ve had the good fortune of picking up a new line— before it became the next big thing. It happened with Tory Burch back in 2007 and our early position with the brand basically kept us in business during the recession. Then Hunter boots blew up after we'd had them for years. Suddenly they were flying off the shelves. Then of course, there is Golden Goose; we had a good run with those sneakers and then they pulled back from carrying them in boutiques.

Ever since I’ve been looking for another sneaker line. We already had Veja as well, but we needed more than just one. Sneakers are all people wear these days.

I had purchased a pair of Autry sneakers a few months back and tested them out. I can’t remember how I saw them, but I thought they were cute and wanted to see how comfortable they were. Well, it turns out they are the most comfortable sneakers I have ever worn. I sent a photo to my sister and she wasn’t on board. Then a week later my niece, who is a student at Ohio State, sent me a photo of them, too. I figure if the college girls are wearing them, then I must be on to something. I have since seen them on Shop Bop and Net-A-Porter, so I am now certain I am right.

I finally tracked them down and got my sister to agree that they were in fact, cool.

A little bit about them: Autry was founded in 1982. They were mainly a tennis shoe brand and the company boomed with the casual tennis shoe trainer trend of the 80s. The founder, Jim Autry, suddenly passed away in the 90s and the brand ceased production. About 20 years later the brand was picked back up by three business partners, one who happened to be the former CEO of a little company called Gucci. Needless to say they are back, with their same classic 80s design and comfort. I am so excited; we just unpacked our first shipment and I hope you love them as much as I do!

Check them out:

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
