Big Changes Coming to the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant

I love good food, which is why I was so excited to attend the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant’s spring tasting as a Mount Vernon Underground member. You may be thinking, Mount Vernon Inn?? Too fancy, too expensive, and not very kid-friendly.Well, I am happy to announce that all of that is changing! Anthony Cavallo, the new Food and Beverage Director at The Mount Vernon Inn, will be rebranding and recreating the historic restaurant on George Washington’s Estate for the first time in 25 years. Cavallo comes to us from The Hyatt in Tysons, where he opened Barrel & Bushel, and his goal is to bring us great, American fare at a reasonable price. The rebranding includes a new name (not yet announced) and, most importantly, new food! April 2 marked the launch of their new menu and they will continue to launch new menu items every six months — a good reason to get the whole family there, and to get there often.Standouts on the menu include the Colonial Hoecake, a corn cake topped with country ham, sautéed crabmeat, and hollandaise sauce, and Bourbon Wings — yes, bourbon and chicken wings as one! The restaurant will be open for weekend brunch, lunch, and dinner 364 days a year. Also included in the rebranding effort is a food truck! Gunston Soccer parents, rejoice! The GW Express Food Truck will be on the property for events and at Gristmill during lunch. Mount Vernon will also be converting their food court into a colonial style market, great for lunch. Please help us in welcoming Cavallo to Alexandria and go try his awesome new menu focused on great, affordable dinner for local families!

My lovely husband, channeling his inner GW.
