The #GetDressed Challenge: Get Ready For It!

I don’t know about you, but I’m having a really hard time getting dressed this month. Truth be told, I often have a hard time getting dressed. I usually need the motivation of working the sales floor at the store to get me out of sweats. I catch myself making excuses: "I have to walk the dogs later, so why bother?” Or "Nobody will really see me since I am working from home today.” Truth be told, someone always sees you and my dogs can barely get to a 20-minute-per-mile pace, so it’s not like a strenuous workout. Maybe I’m just lazy, or frustrated with that extra over-50 weight I can’t seem to shake.

The thing is, we all feel better when we do get dressed. It just puts a pep in your step and really boosts your confidence. It also makes me way more productive.

Since I was struggling to get motivated, I figured others might be, too. The freezing temps aren’t helping either. So I texted Ali and asked her to help get myself and other Stylebook readers motivated. If you don’t follow Ali on Insta, you should. She really breaks down how to build a wardrobe that works for your lifestyle, and shares tools to make getting dressed easier. It doesn’t have to be fussy, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. You also don’t need a ton of clothes. Wear what you have, and wear it all the time. Don’t save that cashmere sweater for special events; your life is the event. Or if you love wearing comfy track pants or sweats you can easily elevate them with the right shoes, and even an oversized blazer or button down.

To help encourage everyone to get dressed, we’re kicking off a five-day Get Dressed Challenge. Starting Tuesday, January 21 through January 25, post your outfit and tag @theshoehive and @alhstyle with the hashtag #GetDressed. We’ll draw a winner from everyone who participates all five days, and they will receive a $500 gift card from The Hive and a two-hour session with Ali of ALH Style. So get dressed and get posting, and let’s motivate each other!

If you need any styling help Ali will be at The Hive, Thursday, January 23 from 10:30am to 12:30pm to help make getting dressed a little easier.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
