First Annual Cookie Crawl!

Not all good ideas come from me drinking with Angela - some come from my little sister. Well, I guess this isn’t really her idea, she just told me about an adorable event in Warrenton, the cute little Piedmont horse country burg where she lives. So, I stole it, and of course we are putting our Old Town stamp on it.Last year she took her two young daughters on a Cookie Crawl during the holidays in downtown Warrenton. She said they had such a great time and it was such a family friendly way to explore all the great stores in their local business district. I mean, personally, nothing would get me moving from store to store faster than sugar!I thought what a great event to bring to the historic streets of Old Town and help kick off the holidays early, especially since Thanksgiving is so late this year! Here is how we are putting our own spin on it. I have written about my Grandma Butcher in prior posts. When she passed away about a year ago, the two things I wanted were some of her jewelry (duh) and then oddly enough, her cookie tins. She would keep all the Christmas cookies in the garage of her farmhouse in Kentucky and I would sneak out all day and quickly grab a cookie. The worst was when you thought you scored a buckeye, for the uninitiated that’s a peanut butter ball covered in chocolate, and instead got a Bourbon ball – identical in appearance but so gross. But ever since then the cookie tin just brought back memories and was something I wanted to have for my own.I decided wouldn’t it be so cute if we had a commemorative cookie tin each year that participants use to collect the cookies? Here is how it will work, register here for the event for $20 and you will get a commemorative tin. On Saturday, November 23, 11am – 5pm, you can pick up your tin at The Shoe Hive and stroll the streets to the stores on the map and collect a pre-wrapped cookie at each store. We will even share the recipes online!Don’t worry, the cookies at my stores will not be made by me; they are from Stomping Ground.I hope you will join us, and it becomes an event folks look forward to every year.
